Literacy Groups

Our small group literacy program utilizes a structured literacy approach, integrating multi-sensory instruction and differentiation to deliver personalized support in foundational literacy skills for students in Preschool through Grade 3. Our educators employ assessments to customize instruction, addressing each student’s unique needs. The small group setting fosters individualized attention and peer collaboration.

  • Literacy for Littles

    Tuesday 1:00-1:50

    “Literacy for Littles” is geared towards our youngest learners. Students learn letter names, letter sounds and letter formation while cultivating their phonological processing abilities, a vital component for successful reading.Instruction moves at the pace of each student and is appropriate for some preschool and most PreK students.

  • Ready to Read

    Returns September 2025!

    Ready to Read is geared towards students who have had prior exposure to letters and sounds and are ready to read and write. Lessons emphasize phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding and application of skills to decodable text. Instruction moves at the pace of each student and is appropriate for most Kindergarten students.

  • Focus 1

    Tuesday or Thursday 4:15-5:05

    Focus 1 builds on the basics of the alphabetic principle and then takes off! Lessons emphasize more advanced phonemic awareness, decoding and encoding and application of skills to decodable text. There is an added emphasis on building reading fluency while applying more complex phonics skills. Instruction moves at the pace of each student and is appropriate for most first grade students.

  • Focus 2

    Focus 2

    Tuesday 3:20-4:10

    Focus 2 guides students toward greater reading independence. Lessons emphasize more advanced phonics concepts, word analysis, and spelling patterns while continuing to develop fluency and comprehension skills. Students apply their knowledge to more complex decodable texts, strengthening their ability to read with accuracy and confidence. Instruction is tailored to each student’s pace and is ideal for most 2nd grade readers who benefit from structured, systematic literacy support.

  • Focus 3

    Thursday 3:20-4:10

    Focus 3 solidifies phonics skills while introducing morphology to support deeper word understanding. Students review key concepts for confidence, strengthen fluency, and begin working with authentic texts when ready. Instruction moves at the pace of each student and is appropriate for those 3rd grade students who are ready to bridge the gap to more advanced reading with accuracy and confidence.
